Cosmetic Acupuncture Acupressure

What is Cosmetic Acupuncture Acupressure ?

Cosmetic acupuncture is a non-invasive treatment that involves using acupuncture to improve skin and fight the aging process. Sometimes referred to as an “acupuncture facelift” or “facial rejuvenation,” cosmetic acupuncture often is used as an alternative to surgical facelifts and other conventional procedures said to reverse signs of aging in the skin.

Proponents claim that cosmetic acupuncture can help reduce wrinkles, diminish fine lines, remove age spots, and lift droopy eyelids. Most courses of cosmetic acupuncture treatment involve 10 or more sessions, as well as additional sessions for maintenance of results.

What are the possible benefits of cosmetic Acupuncture Acupressure?

Improved Collagen Production

Dallas, Texas-based board-certified dermatologist Rebecca Marcus, MD, explains that facial acupuncture, specifically, is hypothesized to stimulate lymphatic drainage, and, therefore, increase blood flow to the face. “This will support collagen production, which can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles,” Dr. Marcus says.

Reduced Acne

Acne-prone skin types looking to supplement their over-the-counter balms and creams might want to consider facial acupuncture. While not scientifically proven to treat any skin condition, Dr. Marcus says there are anecdotal reports that it has helped bouts of acne. By encouraging lymphatic drainage, it may be aiding in the elimination of toxins that may contribute to breakouts.

“I would not recommend acupuncture as a monotherapy for acne,” Dr. Marcus says, “but if a patient were interested in trying it as a complement to help augment results from other science-backed treatments, I certainly would not discourage them from doing so.”

Reduced Inflammation and Jaw Tension

Applying needles directly to specific acupuncture points helps to improve blood circulation, says Dr. Kim, and this can stimulate an immune response that can also reduce inflammation. It can also “help to release trigger points in various muscles of the body,” says Dr. Kim, like those found in the jaw.

How cosmetic Acupuncture Work?

Cosmetic acupuncture is purported to improve skin and act as an anti-aging treatment in part by stimulating the production of collagen (a protein that acts as a major component of your skin).

As you age, your skin’s inner layer loses collagen and, as a result, becomes less supple and firm. However, there is no scientific evidence to support the claim that acupuncture can promote collagen production.

Some proponents also suggest that cosmetic acupuncture can help rejuvenate your skin by improving your overall energy.
